Earlier this year, the good people at Bumstead productions connected FrameBlender with The Trews. Together we collaborated to create a DVD that would coincide with the release of the band’s first acoustic album Friends & Total Strangers. On October 6, the DVD was released and includes performances from the band’s two nights at the Glenn Gould Studio on January 30 & 31. FrameBlender captured both nights with eight cameras, while audio was handled by the talented team at the Glenn Gould Studio.

The Trews have been touring for many years and have been documenting their experiences a majority of the time. We digitized almost 100 hours of tour material and sorted through all of it to include glimpses into the band’s past. Interviews with all of the band members were integrated into the concert to give all fans (Friends & Total Strangers) further insight into many of their songs. With a long track list, hours of material and the responsibility of many aspects of the release, many people at FrameBlender worked very hard, for a long time, to bring the disc to completion. Please find the credits of who worked on the project below.

Production on the first season of The Bold Concert Series came to an end with the filming of both the Constantines and The Waking Eyes at The Phoenix Concert Theatre. After eight shows and multiple venues, there could not have be two better bands to end season one. A mixture of raw performances and intimate interviews, the series also included The Stills, Two Hours Traffic, Justin Rutledge, The Trews, Land of Talk, Jason Collett.

With an ambitious production schedule, FB was in production and post of multiple episodes at all times. All aspects of the production were handled in house, with a variety of camera operators and editors participating in the project. Audio for all episodes, except The Trews concerts, was recorded and mixed by Ian McGettigan.

The goal of the series was to capture performances of some of my favorite Canadian bands in a raw and unique way, giving the viewer the feeling of actually being at the concert. It was also our hope to be able to showcase a selection of bands that may not always be given the spotlight they deserve. Independent music in Canada is as strong as ever and FB is proud to support it in anyway we can.

After more than five years at our home on Adelaide, FrameBlender is moving. The core business of FB has vastly evolved over the years, starting with only three high definition edit suites the company has grown to include eight edit suites with full production capabilities (six cameras) and even some multi track audio capability. As our lease was coming to an end we had to take a serious look at some of the pros and cons of staying in the space we had come to love. It was finally determined that there were a list of needs our business required and that moving was the only option.

New Office

For starter’s, the new office space actually has a studio. The studio is just over 850 square feet and includes 15 foot ceiling (actually the entire office includes this). It also includes a freight elevator directly into the studio and free street parking. Three of our major needs moving forward.

Of course, there will still be plenty of edit suites and a well designed engineering room, but there is also a full kitchen (a high priority).

Finally, there will be a brand new client based offline / online / color suite.

FB is still young enough that everyone can remember what moving into the current office space was like. The plans are to try and settle into the new space quickly and not wait a full year before hosting an open house.
